THE NATURE OF RESORTS IN MAURITIUS
Visitors will need to know that most Mauritian resorts (other than those in the Grand Bay area) are quite remote and that the only way to get to visit shops and other areas is by car or taxi. When you stay at resorts away from Grand Bay, it's almost like living on a cruise vessel, with the resort endeavoring to provide all facilities within its grounds.
TRANSPORT: HOW TO GET AROUND?
Sightseeing is readily available through our operator. Otherwise, public transport (yellow buses), hire cars and taxis (be sure to fix the price prior to departure) are available.
WHAT IS THE DRESS CODE?
Casual during the day-time and smart casual for evening activities. As you would expect, the higher the category of resort, the better the standard of apparel.
WHAT IS THE CURRENCY?
The local currency is Mauritian Rupees
WHAT CAN WE DO IN MAURITIUS OVER AND ABOVE THE ACTIVITIES PROVIDED BY HOTELS?
Duty-free shopping.
Water activities, Undersea Walk and cruises.
Golfing.

River Gorges National Park. Visit Port Louis' modern and old historical sights, art galleries & museums.
WHAT IS THERE TO SHOP FOR?
Port Louis: Ultra modern shopping centres sell a wide range of local and international goods; and there are markets where you can purchase souvenirs. Grand Bay: Has a variety of tourist shops and day / night markets. Quatre Bornes: Thursday markets.
NIGHT LIFE AND ENTERTAINMENT?
Hotels generally provide evening entertainment which might include bands, cabaret and sega dancing. Some have night clubs and a few have casinos.
WHAT ARE THE BEACHES LIKE?
Most resorts have white sandy beaches, protected by reefs; and the water is warm year-round - ensuring comfortable swimming conditions. For those who are interested, the surf is best along the south-western coast.
MONEY EXCHANGE AND CREDIT CARDS
Most credit cards have a ready acceptance at resorts and we recommend you use one to pay your hotel account. For general expenditure, we suggest you change a sum of money on arrival at Mauritius's airport where the rates will be significantly better than at hotels and / or resorts.
